Zucchini, Patty Pan and Other Squashes

left to right: butta, yellow squash, gold zucchini, y-star patty pan, green zucchini
As most of you know I like to mix it up and try colorful, odd, new, or really old varieties. It keeps us both entertained I think.

We often get a lot of questions about the squash we grow. What's a "squash" and what's a zucchini (even though they're all squash) and how on earth do a prepare a Patty Pan squash?

So here's the break down of the squashes we grow....

 Zephyr Squash:

How fun are these guys! People often ask what's wrong with them since they are half yellow and half green but that's exactly how they're supposed to be!  Along with looking cool they have a great flavor that has a mild nutty-ness.

Patty Pan Squash:

Don't let thier round shape throw you off. These guys hold up very nicely on the grill when sliced into "patties." They are also great chopped and cubed. Below I demonstrate how to tackle the situation....

Safari and Goldmine:

These are both gorgeous zucchinis...just like the plain green kind only fancy. Meow!

Green Zucchini:

Oh green zucchini how I love you! When you say zucchini I say Grandma Doris's (not really my grandma but  she was an adorable woman who worked on the farm and knew me since day 1) pineapple zucchini bread. It is quite possibly one of my favorite things on earth.

Gold Zucchini:

Just like the green stuff...

Yellow Squash:
